Notwithstanding Mr. Muzzle's geographical confusion, his assessment of the beer was more or less on target, though I gave them a "good" for at least trying to reproduce less common beer styles. The pilsner tasted like an American version, which is to say, bastardized. No thanks. I don't think I've ever had a rye bock before, so I have no basis of comparison. I'll simply note that it was pretty tasty but could have used a bit more body. The wheat beer was quite tart, a bit spicy and very well done -- the best beer there. The alt was disgusting -- it tasted like liquid walnuts -- but I happen to think that all alts are disgusting so I can only presume they made it to style. The red was a bit weak and watery. The stout was very dry and bitter and pretty well done.

We sat for about 25 minutes before the waitstaff noticed we were there. Way to stay on top of things. Once our presence was acknowledged the service was pretty attentive.

Overall a charming, civilized place in a charming, civilized town. I'll be back in Mount Horeb some day, and I'll stop in the Troll when I'm there.

JT Whitney's brewmaster also brews here. When we visited, they had a very solid pale ale, an interesting rye bock. They always have a good brown and decent wheat as well.
